May is National Mental Health Awareness Month

Posted Date: 5/07/24 (12:00 PM)

Addressing students' fundamental needs, including mental health and wellness, is imperative before they can thrive in the classroom. May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of this issue. While statistics show that one in five people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we've organized various activities across all our schools. These events aim to foster awareness about mental wellness and encourage our students to embrace positive coping strategies. Through guidance lessons and lunchtime activities focused on acts of kindness and gratitude, we strive to provide students with the tools and knowledge to prioritize their mental health. By promoting kindness towards themselves and others, identifying emotions, practicing healthy ways to manage them, and cultivating gratitude practices, we aim to empower students to develop resilience, seek support when needed, and thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Additionally, the Elementary and Middle School Counselors developed a series of webinars designed to empower and support families in navigating various challenges related to their child’s academic, social, and emotional development. These webinars cover topics such as nurturing children’s emotional well-being by teaching coping skills, empowering children and fostering responsible decision-making using the love and logic philosophy, proactively guiding children through the digital media landscape responsibly, and tips to support children in establishing positive attendance habits that contribute to academic success and overall well-being. Stay tuned for upcoming ParentSqare messages each week during May announcing details about each workshop and a link to access the recorded webinar.
